Housing Design Trends to Expect in 2019

The former vice president of finance at KB Home Corporation, Eric Hymowitz has served as president of ROC Homes, Inc., since 2002. In this capacity, Eric Hymowitz and his team assist prospective home buyers in designing homes to their taste and style through ROC’s Design Studio, which is located next to ROC’s corporate offices.

There are several emerging design trends to consider before building a custom home. In its annual Home Trend Forecast, Zillow anticipates an increase in demand for industrial-themed designs with an emphasis on concrete and metal, as the once-ubiquitous rustic decor is waning in popularity. Similarly, bright patterns and bold colors are expected to be replaced by subtle earthy tones and cool blues.

The modern look, characterized by sleek glass and metal elements, is expected to dominate design trends in 2019, as well. Smart home technology will be more frequently integrated into home design, but due to the desire for both modern technology and a sense of tranquility, interior designers predict an increase in designated areas to relax and enjoy quiet time away from tech.

Moreover, if the High Point semiannual furniture market is any indication, popular trends for interior decorating include swivel chairs, warmer tones like tans and beiges, and lighter wood-grain coffee tables.
